Do you write your own reviewer for your kids? Have you compiled and saved them in your computer or laptop?

I have a plan to upload reviewer here at PinayMom.org. This is of course for free, for all students and moms (including dads) who are looking for reviewers for their kids.

I have compiled a number of reviewer already. These are lessons from my kids who are in Grade 1 and Grade 3 respectively.

You might ask, why there’s a need to write your own reviewer if there’s already a lot of reviewers in the internet that are free? The answer is very simple. I agree that there’s plenty of uploaded reviewer out there already including essays, and some are even offering research papers free service. Unfortunately,a lot of them are using Western education system and are not suitable for Filipino students.

My sister who has a grade 2 daughter is also writing reviewer for her and is voluntarily giving me copies so I can upload them too.

The ultimate goal for this simple project is for the parents to find and have an easy access on reviewer (and lessons too). All they have to do is just download and print. I’m pretty sure that this will be a valuable resources for them specially those who are working, and doesn’t have time to write a reviewer for their kids.

If you want to share school reviewer, please let me know. Leave your comment here or send me an email at pinaymomorg@gmail.com. I don’t have the time to review them, so if you may, write the subject, grade level and perhaps the name of the school too. Microsoft Word document is the much preferred format but other formats such as Excel, Notepad and PDF are welcome too.

I fancy bags…no I love bags… I can’t help but stare to some girls when I see a nice bag hanging on their shoulders wishing I have that kind also. In the office, when I need to relax, I would surf the net for signature bags like Coach, LV, Fossils, Channel, Prada, Hermes. It’s one of the best ways to relieve stress and treat my anxiety specially whenever there’s a lot of project that needs to be finished on time.

Just some of my personal bag collections

There are some people I know who share the same passion (or habit) as I have. Some of them told me that they can’t help but give in to their habit especially when they see bag that they really like and dying to get their hands to hold it. They would feel uneasy, sick just thinking of the bag that they want. And there are those who will go the extra mile – resorting to loan money just to be able to buy bags.

Sometimes I would think, am I still normal? My husband sometimes complains about me having too many bags and not using them. He told me he had a small talk with our eldest son the other day about my bags. My 8-year old son told him that I’m spending too much on them already. He even saw me once when I’m reserving a bag online. Of course my husband defended my actions and explained to him that bags makes me happy, and that I’m working hard. So it’s just a form of small reward my self, according to my husband.

Though our son is still young and might not be able to understand my behavior when it comes to my desire for bags, I kinda felt some guilt when I heard that story. I’ve been asking myself and trying to convince that I’m still normal (or so I thought or would like to believe). Am I being a bad example to my kids? I hope not.

Collecting bags, or anything fancy that will make you happy is not bad. Just as long as you know how to be responsible especially with your finances. If this will make you happy and comfort then go. Controlling the urge to buy the bag that you really want is hard to do. What I’m trying to say is, talk to yourself, always weigh your decision between needs and wants. Make a bargain to yourself (sound strange but this one is very effective on me). Ask help from your friends.

Have a nice weekend and enjoy your bags!

As many of you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Did you know that approximately 70% of breast cancers occur in women with none of the known risk factors such as age, obesity, late-age pregnancy, late onset menopause?

Unfortunately, the Philippines has the highest incidence rate of breast cancer in Asia and is considered to have the 9th highest incidence rate in the world today.

I’ve been reading a lot of discussions about this subject and the no. 1 reason (at least for me) why there’s a rising in numbers of women getting this disease for the past years is actually misinformation or lack of information.

How can you avoid acquiring breast cancer if you don’t know the causes of breast cancer in the first place?

Let the numbers speak.

One out of eight North American women will have breast cancer. The San Francisco Bay Area in the United States has the highest incidence worldwide. And did you know that San Francisco Bay is the Porn capital of the world?

Almost 500,000 die from breast cancer every year. More than a million women develop breast cancer without even knowing it.

According to Philippine Cancer Society, breast cancer is the number one cause of death among Filipino women.

Can Wearing a Bra Kill You?

Among the issue being debated about is, if bras can cause breast cancer.

According to two anthropologists, Sydney Ross Singer and Soma Grismaijer , “bras cause breast cancer. It’s open and shut”.

In an experiment conducted by Sydney and Soma if there is indeed a possible link between brassieres and breast cancer, almost half of the 4,700 American women subjects in five major cities in the US were afflicted with the disease.

The results showed that wearing a bra for more than 12 hours every day may lead to breast cancer.

How Can Bras Cause Breast Cancer?

Bras is constricting breast tissue, hampering lymph drainage and causing degeneration.

The World Health Organization calls chemical toxins the primary cause of cancer. But poisons accumulating in breast tissue are normally flushed by clear lymph fluid into large clusters of lymph nodes nestling in the armpits and upper chest. Sydney and Soma found that “because lymphatic vessels are very thin, they are extremely sensitive to pressure and are easily compressed.” Chronic minimal pressure on the breasts can cause lymph valves and vessels to close.

“Less oxygen and fewer nutrients are delivered to the cells, while waste products are not flushed away,” the medical researchers noted. After 15 or 20 years of bra-constricted lymph drainage, cancer can result.

Are you ready to hang up those lacey, shapely, fashionable brassieres in the name of health and long life?

Sydney Ross Singer estimated that up to 75% percent of breast cancer cases could be prevented if women wear their bras less often.

At the first frightening sign of a lump, an angry Syd Singer says, “women should take their bras off before they take their breasts off.” Why wait, when you can liberate your lymphatics now.

Not everyone is ready to hang up her halter specially in a conservative country like the Philippines.

If You Must Wear a Bra:

Push-up and sports bras are out.

Choose loose-fitting cotton bras.

Make sure you can slip two fingers under the shoulder-straps and side-panels. The higher the side-panels, the more severe the restriction of major lymph nodes.

Don’t wear this disastrous device to sleep. Take it off at home.

Massage your breasts every time you remove your bra.

Sing your lymphatics into health — or at least breathe deeply.

There are important opportunities to prevent breast cancers in our society and they do not require us to expose tens of millions of women to powerful chemotherapy drugs year after year.

By the way, according to the study made by Sydney and Soma , bouncing bosoms help clear the lymphatics. Let’s give our breast the freedom from time to time, shall we?

Here’s a nice and inspiring anecdote which we, women (and men too) that can help us in building a strong relationship with a friend. Learn, be guided and apply it in your life.

Socrates’ TRIPLE FILTER TEST
(Keep this philosophy in mind when dealing with rumors)

In ancient Greece (469 – 399 BC), Socrates was widely lauded for his wisdom.

One day the great philosopher came upon an acquaintance who ran up to him
excitedly and said, “Socrates, do you know what I just heard about one of your
students?”

“Wait a moment,” Socrates replied. “Before you tell me about it, I’d like you to
pass a little test. It’s called the “Triple Filter Test.”

“Triple filter test?” asked the acquaintance.

“That’s right,” Socrates continued. “Before you talk to me about my student,
let’s take a moment to filter what you’re going to say. The first filter is
Truth.. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is
true?”

“No,” the man said, “actually I just heard about it.”

“All right,” said Socrates. “So you don’t really know if it’s true or not. Now
let’s try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to
tell me about my student something good?”

“No, on the contrary …”

“So,” Socrates continued, “you want to tell me something bad about him, even
though you’re not certain it’s true?”.

The man shrugged, a little embarrassed.

Socrates continued. “You may still pass the test though, because there is a
third filter – the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my
student going to be useful to me?”

“No, not really…”

“Well,” concluded Socrates, “if what you want to tell me is neither True nor
Good nor even Useful, then why tell it to me at all?”

The man was dumbfounded and ashamed.

This is one of the reasons why Socrates is regarded as a great philosopher and
held in such high esteem by many.

It’s International Women’s Friendship Month. So, let’s try to build new friends, and get in touch with our old friends as well.

Towards A Baby-Friendly World

From 1-7 August 2010, the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), and breastfeeding advocates in more than 170 countries worldwide will be celebrating World Breastfeeding Week for the 19th year with the theme “Breastfeeding: Just 10 Steps. The Baby-Friendly Way”.

World Breastfeeding Week 2010

Research shows that the best feeding option globally is the initiation of breastfeeding within the first half hour of life, exclusive breastfeeding for a full six months and continued breastfeeding through the second year or beyond. Breastfeeding improves short and long term maternal and child health; and thus contribute to the attainment of the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) REDUCE CHILD MORTALITY and IMPROVE MATERNAL HEALTH, to which many countries and agencies are committed.

UNICEF recently noted that the reduction of child deaths from 13 million globally in 1990 to 8.8 million in 20081 is partly due to the adoption of basic health interventions such as early and exclusive breastfeeding.

More and more studies have shown that implementation of the Ten Steps with continued postnatal support contributes to increased breastfeeding initiation and exclusive breastfeeding at the local, national and global levels.

Today, an estimated 28% of all maternity facilities in the world have at some point implemented the Ten Steps which has contributed to an encouraging increase in breastfeeding rates despite aggressive commercial promotion of infant formula and feeding bottles. However this is a far cry from the original goal of ALL maternity facilities practising the Ten Steps by 1995 as stated in the Innocenti Declaration (1990) on the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding which had outlined what countries should do to support breastfeeding.

In 2005, fifteen years after the original Innocenti Declaration, the Innocenti+15 Declaration had called upon individuals, health care professionals, communities, governments and multilateral, bilateral organisations and international financial institutions to ensure that all women can succeed in breastfeeding.

In 2007, UNICEF and WHO completed an update and revision of the Baby-Friendly materials which acknowledge new research and experience, and suggest new approaches to Baby-Friendly beyond the maternity hospital in other health settings and in the community.

Action at community level is particularly important since globally only 56% of women deliver their babies in a health facility, (only 33% in the least developed countries) and they may be discharged within a day or two. Women need ongoing support in the community whether they deliver in hospital or at home.

Whilst rates of exclusive breastfeeding have increased in many countries, there has been stagnation or decrease in some, partly because reduced political support for BFHI and poor compliance with the Ten Steps in BFHI certified facilities.

Recent studies have shown that with more of the Ten Steps in place, the more likely women are to achieve their breastfeeding goals. This confirms that importance for every maternity, hospital, clinic and community to strive to increase the number of steps in place, even if they cannot achieve all ten steps immediately. Therefore every step counts!

‘Let’s join hands in taking the reliable Ten Steps to making this world a Baby-Friendly World!’

The “Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding” are the foundation of Baby-friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) and summarize the maternity practices necessary to support breastfeeding. A maternity facility can be designated ‘baby-friendly’ when it does not accept free or low-cost breastmilk substitutes, feeding bottles or teats, and has implemented these 10 specific steps to support successful breastfeeding.

Every facility providing maternity services and care for newborn infants should:

Have a written breastfeeding policy that is routinely communicated to all health care staff.

Train all health care staff in skills necessary to implement this policy.

Inform all pregnant mothers about the benefits and management of breastfeeding.

Help mothers initiate breastfeeding within a half-hour of birth.

Show mothers how to breastfeed, and how to maintain lactation even if they should be separated from their infants.

Give newborn infants no food or drink other than breastmilk unless medically indicated.

Practice rooming-in – allow mothers and infants to remain together – 24 hours a day.

Encourage breastfeeding on demand.

Give no artificial teats or pacifiers (also called dummies or soothers) to breastfeeding infants.

Foster the establishment of breastfeeding support groups and refer mothers to them on discharge from the hospital or clinic.

Everyone has the right to information about the benefits of breastfeeding and the risks of artificial feeding. Governments have a responsibility to provide this information. Communities as well as media and other channels of communication can play a key role in promoting breastfeeding.

I would like to apologize because PinayMom.org was inaccessible for the past days. We had a problem with our webhost and my husband was forced to transfer PinayMom to Hostgator. Due to the incidence, we lost a number of posts, images and comments that were written in the past 6 months. This is actually the 2nd time that we had to transfer PinayMom since January of this year. Our last full-working backup for this site was done last December 2009.

I know, I know that we should have done a full-backup every now and then. It’s actually our fault (my fault..huhuhu).

I’m sorry to all Adgitizers and Entrecard droppers who visited PinayMom but unfortunately you were not able to get in. Likewise to all our visitors who left their wonderful and thought provoking comments. I’m really sorry because we cannot recover them anymore. Once again, my apology.

New Location, New Home, New Look

On the other hand, I guess it’s not bad at all because I was given also the opportunity to do a big and complete makeover to this site. As you can see, PinayMom is now using the new default theme of WordPress 3.0 which is the TwentyTen. It seems this theme loads fast (which according to my husband is good for SEO), and very flexible in terms of changing the header, background and menus.I just wish that there’s a 3-column version.

I’m also using now a new header for PinayMom. Actually this header has been given to me by my brother-in-law in 2 years ago but I was not able to use it because it won’t fit on my previous theme. He also designed two more headers but I think the one that I’m using now is much better than these two:

Pinay Mom Header 2

Pinay Mom Header 3

What do you think? Which header should I use? Should I use the one that I’m using now? And what do you think of the new look of PinayMom?

I need your feedback
