It’s easy to get a credit card and it’s even easier to misuse it. Do you agree?

I had a chat with my former officemate last night who is now based in Texas, USA. She told me that she’s having a hard time in paying her credit card bills and other debts. It’s affecting her everyday life already because some creditors are harassing her through mails and phone calls. I honestly informed her that I don’t have much knowledge about credit card laws in the USA, but I shared to her my story on how I was able to clear my credit card debts. I even advice her to check on some plano credit repair company to assist and perhaps help her on how to clear her negative credit ratings too.

I used to have 6 different credit cards in my wallet. Whenever I want something, I just whip out my card thinking that I can pay it through my salary which I’m receiving every month. But it was a gross mistake on my part. What I always have in mind was my high credit card limit but not the real cash on hand, and my monthly take home pay. And before I knew it, I was already buried in debt and unable to pay even the minimum payment.

This greatly affected my credit history when it was time to get a loan. Somehow, the banks knew that I defaulted on most of my credit cards payment in the past.

At first I did not inform my husband about my problem but since we need to get a loan from the bank, I disclosed to him what happened. My husband helped me by lending me some amount to gradually close all my credit cards. Yes, he wanted me to cut all my credit cards in two. Being a dutiful wife, I resigned to my husband’s desire. It was a struggle in the beginning but when I was able to pay the full amount on the first credit card, everything became smoothly until I was able to settle all 6.

I don’t want to be in that situation again. So I followed my husband advice to drop everything. I even requested a certificate of full payment from the credit card companies just in case I’ll be needing them later on. I was glad I did. After some few years ( 2 years to be exact, I think), my credit report was on the positive side already and was able to get a loan for our house.

Lessons learned.

Two credit cards is more than enough already.

Control your spending even if you have high credit limit.

Don’t give in to installment basis if you can’t even pay the item in full cash.

Pay the balance in full on or before due date.

If you’re having trouble paying your credit card debts, settle it as soon as possible.

Tell your husband about your spending habit.

The Sinulog festival is one of the tourism’s well-known highlights in the country. Its event is a month long celebration starting from the 3rd Sunday in the month of January (from 2 to 31,) a really great way to start your new years. The feast is done in honor of the child Sto. Nino, whom is paraded in thanks and blessings through a procession and Mardi gras in Cebu, the City of Culture according to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN.)

Actually, the dance presentations itself serve as prayers for devotees as well as creative galas for artists and designers. For this Sinulog 2012, Mayor Michael Rama even appealed its local communities to be “Be hospitable, be vigilant” in preparation for its Asian theme with a funding of up to Php 40 million. President Benigno Aquino III and Vice President Jejomar Binay will grace their presence, much to the city’s glee and delight.

From December 15, 2011, ticket sales have been on going until the first day of the event itself. You can buy from the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI). According to SFI’s Executive Director Ricky Ballesteros, they will need a better crowd control and improved performances from artists this year’s celebration rites. Although, last year, the festival was held really safe, just like in the past. Moreover, it seems that the crowd is so big in number to even pave way for what they are watching. Unfortunately, the venue can’t be expanded, so if you’re planning to go there this month, be sure to follow instructions and tell other spectators too. As for the artists, there were opened sponsored workshops to enhance their performances. This opportunity has shown more promises in just one event compared to other festivals in the country. Plus, they are free!

One of the much awaited contests is the Sinulog Idol. Wherein, there will be 12 finalists to watch. It is a singing competition in collaboration with the Center for Pop Music Philippines and Soundtraxx Productions Studio.

Start at the most convenient time possible. You should allow only two hours of shopping hours.

Wear cool and comfortable clothes as well as limit wearing jewelries or accessories that can add to the hassle of carrying things that you have shopped for from stall to stall.

Write down everything you want to buy and who will be given the gifts.

There should be a definite budget for each gift to give.

Bring shopping bags in reasonable numbers that you can use as well as re-use for shopping at the bazaar.

Keep the receipt.

Check what you have shopped for numbers and repairs.

Take care and look after your personal possessions.

Prices for men and women t-shirts can range from Php 99 up to 150 only. On the other hand, shoes are offered in a buy-one-take one discount promo, which are made in high quality and in lots of sizes. There are also casual or formal blouses offered in 3 for Php 580, really affordable. You just have to buy once for 2 persons.

Store hours are: 11 am to 9 pm during Monday to Thursday and 11am to 10 pm during Friday to Sunday. This year, on its 11th run, there are 23 shopping days to enjoy. Namely they are:

Were you shocked with the title of my post today? Don’t be.

It’s the time of year once more when many of us get loads of cash from year-end bonuses, at least for the working moms out there. And for those who are not in active working force anymore, well just ask for your husband’s bonuses.

I’m pretty sure a lot of you can easily answer my question. Majority will answer ” spend, spend and spend!” Well, that’s my answer too… but I’m thinking on some other ways to put a part of it in savings. Not too big, but enough to start the ball rolling of savings for the future. My husband told me that If I want to keep my money, then I’ll just deposit it on a bank but If I want to make it grow then I need to invest it.

A badminton friend of mine told me that every end of the year, together with her husband, they pooled their money together and invest in stocks. Well, I don’t know anything about these kind of investments but I’ve been reading more and more online like the Timothy Sykes penny stocks.

Good thing another friend of mine, who is connected to a local life insurance and a mutual fund company, explained to me how stocks works. Since I’m not an active player in buying and selling stocks, she encouraged me instead to look into mutual funds. She told me it’s the same with the pooling of money that my badminton friend is doing, the money for mutual funds is being pooled also from a lot of people and invest them on different portfolios like stocks. The advantage of this is that you don’t need to be involve in day-to-day o buying and selling of stocks since a Fund Manager will take care of it.

So for those of you who doesn’t know where to spend, I mean to save your hard earned money, you may get in touch with me and I’ll refer you to my friend.

To be honest, our family don’t celebrate Halloween but this doesn’t mean that we don’t visit our relatives during these long vacation holidays. Actually this is one of the holidays that we are looking forward to because it gives us the opportunity to travel for a longer time.

Just like the holidays, we all look forward to reunions during Nov. 1 and 2. Wherein, we get to taste real Filipino dishes like “sapin-sapin,” “biko,” and “puto,” lemon bisquits, “suman” and a lot more foods that are not only sweet but are every Pinoy’s favorite to eat during these times. If they are not cooked by grandmothers, our aunts or moms of course would love to sample their own Filipino style recipes of these goodies. Else, you can buy these from baking stores like Colette’s Buko Pie and Pasalubong, Mega Melt or Pancit ng taga Malabon.

If you want to bring flowers, you can order them now online at Manila Blooms. Other means can be at the Cebu flower market or in Manila, The Dangwa Flower Market, wherein prices are really low and cheap.

While our relatives, it is also fun to share stories and tales your cousins haven’t heard from you. This time stories are really scary and are part of the Filipino culture. You can share your personal accounts or experiences with “aswang,” “dwende,” “tikbalang,” white ladies and other mythical bodies seen during an eerie night. There are relatives who would even come from abroad just to visit during “Undas.” Surely, they would love to hear these scary stories from you.
Compared to other countries, here our culture shows that Undas can also be something to look forward to at the end of the year. There are even dancing in the streets, cemetery or other places any family can celebrate all night long. Costume parties are everywhere now in the Philippines. Usually they are held during this time of the year, but there are also some events and contests on Undas, like the “adobo Run After Dark 2011” to be held at the Aseana City, or the “World Anime Cosplay Summit 2011: Hero face off contest.” Though, it is not specifically Halloween, like how the westerns have.
You can share how you celebrate “Undas” with us! Just post your own version of stories through the comment box below.

According to MMDA, the temporary restraining order only covers sidewalks and public thoroughfares, so it means it’s still being enforced in other areas.

As a non-smoker, I really can’t tolerate the smell of bad breath from someone who smokes specially those smokers blowing smoke in public places as if they don’t care about the people around them. Please do note there were times that I puffed cigarettes in college so I know how to get rid of the bad smell before I gets home.

I just read some information on electronic cigarettes or e-cigs for short, that there’s no second-hand smoke and no odor of tobacco. If smokers can’t really stop their habit, I’m thinking if they can use e-cigs instead of the real cigarettes. There’s actually no tar or tobacco on this product except only the taste of nicotine which is actually what the smokers are craving for.

Based on some information that I’ve researched, the electronic cigarette is even more economical because it can be restored and used over and over.

So if you really can’t control the habit, I propose that you try e-cigs. I suggest you visit some electronic cigarette comparison sites to know what is the best type that can help you in quitting. I can’t suggest anything about it because I did not go through this period anymore. What I can assure you is that, this is in reality, your first step in trying to quit your habit of smoking.

Quitting smoking is not easy but you have to take the first step if you really want to get rid of it.

I received this email the other day and I really want to share with all the readers of PinayMom. The message is so powerful that will make you think, as a parent, how do you treat your children. Do you shout at them?

We always notice the graft and corruption happening in our government but do you practice honesty and transparency at home?

Well, I hope you can learn a lesson or two from the message below.

It is in the home that we learn how to treat others. The way a person treats his or her family affects how he or she treats other people. Therefore, parents are responsible in training their children on how they should treat family members. Matthew 7:12 says, “In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

How do you treat your family properly? Here are five ways to apply this principle.

Be Respectful. In order to be respectful you cannot be moody. This means you have to keep your emotions in control. Use kind words, words that can build up a person. As parents, you have to respect your children even though they are subject under your authority. Respect them so they will learn to respect others.

Be Forgiving. Conflicts are inevitable but in Ephesians 4:32, it says, “Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.” Those who have experienced God’s forgiveness through the redemptive power of the blood of Christ ought to forgive as they have been forgiven. Jesus says to even forgive your brother “seventy times seven”. Kindness is the evidence of forgiveness. You cannot afford to be kind if you have not forgiven. Parents are responsible for creating an environment of joy, forgiveness and acceptance in the home instead of tension and anger.

Be Givers, Not Takers. By nature we are selfish. We think that we’re entitled to many things. But the Bible says: “Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”(Philippians 2:4) As parents, you should train your children to learn how to appreciate the blessings they have so that they will be givers and not takers. Allow them to see the realities of life and give them opportunities to serve others.

Be Accountable. The Bible tells us, “Better is open rebuke than love that is concealed. Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.” (Proverbs 27: 5-6) Practice honesty and transparency at home. Avoid discussions by raising your voice or by crying. Be humble enough to listen and then clarify your position. If you are wrong, learn to admit your mistakes and ask for forgiveness.

Be a Dream Releaser. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.” Allow your children to be stretched. Give them wings to fly. Put courage in the lives of your children, as most of them are afraid to fail and lack confidence. Your role is to build in courage by pointing them towards Jesus. In the same way, for young people be dream releasers to your parents also. It is never too late to tell your parents what they can become, too.
