It is the time of the year again when colds and coughs quickly spread around. There are so many misconceptions about common colds and the sad thing is, these erroneous beliefs are so “common”. Many are mistaken that some colds were caused by bacteria, but in fact, colds are actually caused by viruses rather than a bacteria.

For children, and adults too, in order to win the battle against cold, they must first strengthen their immune system before it strikes them. Since cold is caused by a virus, antibiotics won’t help. There was even a widrawal of the over-the-counter cold medicines for children under 2 years old.

“First and foremost, we want parents to know that no matter what, most viral infections will get better in threee to five days and go away completely within two weeks,” says Dr. Dennis Kuo, a pediatrician at John’s Hopkins Children’s Center. “The second thing they need to remember is fluids, fluids, fluids.”

Hopkins Children’s doctors offer the following advice to parents:

Give your child plenty of fluids.

Avoid giving straight water to children under 6 months because their kidneys are not mature enough to handle too much water.

To help relieve congestion, use saline nasal drops up to four times a day and a cool-mist humidifier at night.

Use baby acetaminophen to relieve high fever in infants older than 3 months.

Use children’s ibuprofen to take down high fever in children over 6 months. Typically, a temperature over 101 is considered a high fever, but tolerance varies from child to child. Follow your gut on this one.

Don’t over-wrap a feverish infant and don’t cover the face and head. Over-wrapping prevents proper cooling.

Call a pediatrician if:

Your child is younger than 3 months and has a fever over 100.4 when taken rectally.

Your child over 3 months has a fever higher than 104 when taken rectally.

Your child hasn’t had a wet diaper in six hours, a sign of dehydration. Other signs of dehydration include dry mouth, fussiness and producing few or no tears when crying.

Your child’s symptoms don’t improve in three to five days.

Your child is lethargic, particularly with NO fever present.

Your child is unusually cranky and does not calm down when picked up and held.

Your child’s breathing is rapid or labored.

Your child refuses to drink.

And as a suggestion for the parents, just let your kids be active! As long as they are healthy, your child’s immune system can fight the cold on its own.

A mother is very important to us everyday, of course, but on mother’s day it’s time to make her feel extra consequential. And if you have the idea that mother’s day is only meant for Mommies, Mama, Nanay, Inang, whatever we call them, you are deluded. For “Mother’s day” is not only about mothers or mother-to-be’s, you can also make your sister, aunt, grandma or any other motherly person feel special on this day of the year. When it comes to this one single day specifically designed for mothers, you have a better ground to make them feel important, love and cared for. Mother’s Day is celebrated every second Sunday of the month of May globally.

How we pray tribute to our moms depend barely to the level of appreciation we have for them. Do we really cherish or take them for granted for all the sacrifices they had offered us? We may have diverse view when it comes on describing our one-of-a-kind-mother,but I can say that ”She is
like
a bank
where we can
deposit all
the pains and
sufferings in life, and
in return withdraw endless love and affection anytime we want to”.”She is like a bank where we can deposit all the pains and sufferings in life, and in return withdraw endless love and affection anytime we want to”.

In general, “Mother’s Day” is to make sure that all the super marvelous mothers in the world feel right on top of the world. No matter the distance, whatever you do, take this chance to express your intensive gratitude for our mothers. Give respect, send love and regards whether thru card, e-mail, or text, make her smile by saying “I love You”. If not on Mother’s day when? You might loose the opportunity and regret your actions afterwards. Do your part to make your mom feel great on her day.Hug and kiss her, spend time with her,let her have her day. Remember to wish her with sincere, warmth, and sweet “Mothers Day”.

Be it your garage, basement, an extra room, or even a corner of your bedroom, every household has its own tambak spot, a catchall for all sorts of things. If you can’t live with the mess any longer, take these steps now:

Throw away anything that’s clearly trash. Spend a day sorting out what to keep, what to toss what to toss, and what to give away.

Sort it out. Put everyday things within reach and store seasonal things away.

Concentrate on one area at a time. A big organizing task like this can be daunting. To be successful, stay in one area and sort through everything until you’re done. A common mistake people make is “scatter organizing” — doing a little of that one. If you do this, you won’t see any progress.

Get organizing must have as such a pegboard, deep shelves, and storage tubs. For easy access, it’s best to label everything.
