When I was in the hospital, I was always so impressed by the medical team and the medical staff, but when I walked out of my psychiatric visit, I realized I was so nervous about my pregnancy. After all, I was about to give birth to a son. However, the whole process seemed to go so quickly. Luckily, I’m a very lucky girl. Thanks to a group of doctors and nurses at Skagit Regional Health, I was able to get the care I needed. I’ve also seen some of my favorite shows on television.

The Center for Research and Education on Women’s Health and Sex Differences at Cedars-Sinai Hospital is dedicated to funding and promoting research into the biological differences that affect women. The Center’s stories show how this important work is advancing the field of women’s health and preventing future misdiagnoses. In a special print package, visitors will see profiles of patients and stories of how the Center’s research continues to break down the barriers in medicine for women.
Dr. Gregory is an advocate of black women and an outstanding leader at Cedars- Sinai and across the nation. Her expertise in maternal-fetal care and groundbreaking research have helped improve health outcomes for women of color and their babies. Dr. Gregory is a founding member of the nonprofit organization Cherished Futures for Black Moms & Babies, a leadership group committed to improving the experience of Black women.
In 2016, a Black woman was killed in a cesarean section. The husband of the woman who died hours after giving birth was determined to sue Cedars. His lawsuit alleges that Cedars-Sinai’s medical staff failed to provide proper care for Kira Dixon Johnson. In fact, she had a heart condition that led to death. Her husband, Charles Johnson IV, has filed a lawsuit against Cedars-Sinai, alleging that she was not given appropriate care simply because she was Black.
Skagit Regional Health
When Kindra O’Neill was 22, she went to Skagit Regional Health for care. The care she received set the foundation for her reproductive years and motherhood.
